Victoria Taylor - Audrey Allen

Misha Allard - Senator Hanson

Francesco De Francesco - Jack

Victoria  is an actor with extensive experience in theatre, dance, commercials and movies.  Recently she completed a lead role in the short film “The Closet” as well as commercial for a CAA membership video.

Victoria was initially drawn to ‘5 Seconds to Air’ by the feisty character descriptions of Audrey and the idea of playing someone who stood up so strongly for what she believed was right.  In addition, the political relevance of the story presented an amazing opportunity for Victoria to comment and confront the politics of the day through dramatic storytelling.

Victoria’s favourite part of the process was collaborating with Cameron, director and the other cast members.  It is always an exciting challenge for her to create a backstory for the character she plays and then workshop it with the director and other actors in real time.  For Victoria, this is an empowering experience that not only enhances the story, but also helps her to empathize with and better understand the motivations and behaviours of people.

Misha is a Canadian actress and entrepreneur pursuing growth in human expression and the power of story.  She has appeared in numerous films including the award winning short, ‘If I Go’ (2016) and ‘No Quiet Place’ (2015) a short film about Canada’s infamous ‘60’s Scoop’ of indigenous children.

Misha has always enjoyed political dramas and was drawn to ‘5 Seconds To Air’ because of its relevance to contemporary politics and it’s strong female characters.  She prepared for her role by researching several American politicians including Texan democrat Marianne Williamson. Despite the serious nature of the script, Misha had a wonderful time sharing laughs with her scene partner, Victoria Talyor who appeared as her rival on camera.

Misha is proud to be a part of the 5 Seconds Crew and a story that celebrates women's empowerment.  As a businesswoman and actor, she hopes this story can be a source of inspiration for other young women, trying to make a difference in today’s world.

Cam Harris - Director

Cameron recently completed a four year Film Studies Program at Brock University. Sick of discussing movie trivia at cocktail parties, Cameron decided to enroll at Humber College, to put his theoretical knowledge to practical use.

As director for ‘5 Seconds to Air’ Cameron used a collaborative, team-based approach to getting his vision across.  Working closely with his cast, crew and professors, Cameron carefully navigated the script and tight shooting schedule to make his vision a reality.  His biggest take away from the whole experience was as follows; “filmmaking is like childbirthing; gruesome at times and messy at others, but beautiful and well worth it in the long run.”

Upon graduation, Cameron plans on pursuing a career in directing.  He looks forward to making many more films, gaining more hands on experience and earning the title, “Canada’s go to director.”

Brendon Black - Cinematographer

Brendan has spent several years in the entertainment industry working as a musician and content creator for other bands. In 2018, Brendan decided to switch careers and focus exclusively on film making.

Working as director of photography for ‘5 Seconds To Air’ was challenging and exciting for Brendan. What really interested him about the project was designing two very distinct visual styles and merging them together as the story progressed.  Collaborating with the director and production designer, Brendan re-created a broadcast news lighting setup then contrasted it against a dark and moody control room to add to the realism and overall drama of the story.

Brendan was especially grateful for the opportunity to work on a studio set as director of photography for ‘5 Seconds to Air’.  It has solidified his love of cinematography and hands on filmmaking. Upon graduation, Brendan hopes to pursue a full time career as a cinematographer.

Hannah was drawn to the serious tone of ‘5 Seconds to Air’ and the empowering female characters in the script.  Assuming the leadership of assistant director was an exciting opportunity for Hannah and has broadened her plans for the future.  Upon graduation, Hannah is interested in pursuing a career in directing or assistant directing.

Quentin is 2nd year film student at Humber College pursuing a career in screenwriting and directing. Before coming to film school, Quentin obtained an undergraduate degree in biology, dissected blood sucking insects, taught ballroom and latin dancing, and worked in remote Canada reforesting clear cut land.  It is difficult to say how these experiences influenced his decision to become a filmmaker.  Perhaps it was a need to tell stories that rivalled his own adventures.

Quentin is a firm believer that a good director should know how to edit a film. For this reason, he was happy to take on the role of picture editor for ‘Five Seconds to Air.’  Learning how to collaborate with the director, writer and producers to make their vision come to life has been an extremely rewarding experience.  He looks forward to seeing what the audience thinks of the final cut.  Currently, Quentin is working on a feature length script that he is planning to direct in 2021.  Stay tuned!

Since her early teens, Georgina has loved telling stories, especially ones that reconcile people and spread awareness about marginalized communities. A career in film making was an obvious choice.

Georgina has edited two short documentaries, and produced and wrote her own short film, ‘Flicker’.  In addition to her work on ‘Five Seconds to Air’, Georgina has worked as the production manager for the studio drama, ‘Landry’s Laundry.’

What drew Georgina to ‘5 Seconds to Air’ was the story’s strong female leads and the difficult decision presented to the main character.  Georgina worked closely with Cam, the director and Nadia, the set designer, to make sure the set was a convincing space for the actors to work in.

Upon graduation,  Georgina hopes to pursue a career in editing and producing.  With the experience she has already garnered, she is well on her way.

Nadia Zreik - Production Designer

Angus Chong - Sound Recordist

Monty Montgomery - Casting

Nadia Zreik is a Syrian born film student and  recent graduate of George Brown College’s Media Foundation Program, Nadia believes in a multidisciplinary approach to film making.  Nadia has distinguished herself by collaborating on numerous student projects and has written her own short script, ‘Boiling’, which is scheduled for release this spring.

Wanting to try her hand at every aspect of the filmmaking process, Nadia assumed the role of production designer for the studio drama, ‘5 Seconds To Air.’  Inspired by contemporary shows like ‘HARDTalk’ and political figures like Sarah Palin, Nadia created a fictitious but believable world for the actors and crew members to work in.

As it turns out, having a diploma in media foundations was a great asset for researching and designing a set.

Upon graduation, Nadia plans on pursuing her dream of becoming a full time writer/director.  The role of production designer will be a valuable stepping stone towards making that dream a reality.

Angus aspires to pursue a career as a Sound Recordist, cinematographer, grip, gaffer and VFX. He learned a variety of skills at the program from cinematography, sound, lighting etc.

His goal for the future is to continue to polish his skills as a sound recordist to become a full time boom op and sound recordist after he graduates.

Monty was enrolled in an English Literature program at Trent University.  While attending this school, Monty realized that she didn’t want to analyze and critique the stories of others, she wanted to create her own stories. Monty switched paths and enrolled in Humber’s hands on film production program where she could pursue this calling.

At Humber College, Monty has written and directed the short narrative film ‘Coven’ as well a short documentary on Body Dysmorphic Disorder entitled ‘Body Talks.’ These projects were amazing opportunities to tell her stories and showcase her talents.

As casting director for ‘5 Seconds To Air’, Monty approached her role by focusing on the realism of the story.  Because of the serious nature of the script and its relevance to contemporary politics, it was important for her to find believable characters. For Monty, looks weren’t enough, serious acting was just as important.

Monty is looking forward to entering the film industry upon graduation and has interests in casting, screenwriting and directing.

Joel Mens - Camera Operator

Nicole Hayward - Script Supervisor

Originally interested in kinesiology, Matthew switched career paths to pursue his passion for scriptwriting.  He enrolled at Humber to broaden his understanding of the entire film making process and see his stories come to life.

‘5 Seconds to Air’ was inspired by a real life controversy surrounding American news anchor, Brian Williams which led Matthew to question what a news anchor would have to do to become an outcast in the industry.  It also brought up the themes of what goes into trusting the news we are being delivered in the “fake news” era. From these speculations, Matthew developed the central conflict of “5 Seconds to Air”; how to report the truth while under corporate pressure to lie or mislead your audience.

Upon graduation, Matthew plans to continue his scriptwriting career and work on many more short and feature length films.

An avid photographer and film stock enthusiast, Joel has worked extensively with vintage cameras as well as state of the art digital equipment.  Joel has worked as director of photography for two short documentaries, ‘Labour of Luv’ and ‘Fully Involved’ as well assuming the role of 1st Assistant Camera for the studio drama, ‘Landry’s Laundry.’

As camera operator for ‘5 Seconds to Air’, Joel worked closely with Brendan, the director of photography, to incorporate handheld and static shooting into the shotlist.

Upon graduation, Joel hopes to pursue a career as a cinematographer and camera operator.

Nicole has interests in many fields of art such as theatre, writing and film and wrote her first full length screenplay with her sister, when she was 15 years old. She has many years of experience working in community theater and loves to help people whenever she can. Most recently she directed the short documentary "Heart of Rhythm" and produced the short documentary "Deeper Than Blue" which was chosen as official selection in the Gen Z Film Festival and the Hamilton Youth Film Festival.

Nicole feels lucky to have worked on “Five Seconds to Air” with such an awesome and talented team. She loves how the film portrays women as strong individuals who go after their dreams. Currently she is working on several screenplays and hopes to bring her song cycle for the stage "On the Outside" to the Sheridan Musical theater program in the upcoming years and to work in the field as a director, screenwriter and producer.
